About
Hi! I'm Jasmine. I'm glad you're here!
I've been a visual artist for as long as I can remember. I’m a local Ottawa artist living in the Glebe and painting with my fiancé and fellow artist, David Casey. I have over 25 years of education and experience in the arts especially as a painter. I've specialized in water mixable oil painting since 2008 with Cobra oil paints and I love how they are so saturated and buttery and perfect for a home studio.
My new 2023 series of oil paintings explores “Cottage Life” with still life objects in and around the cottage. The series focuses on intimate and whimsical pinecones and will expand to include other natural beauties found around a Canadian cottage.
Here's a bit more about me:
- I'm Canadian and I live in the Glebe in Ottawa.
- I have many years of experience in creating artworks in all sorts of mediums, from pottery to painting to printmaking.
- I went to Ottawa’s famous artsy Canterbury High School for the visual arts program (2002-2006). Those years were the best!
- I moved to Toronto in 2006 and went to the Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU) and graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Criticism and Curatorial Practice. I took so many awesome studio-based art courses as well as art history and museum studies classes.
- In the fall of 2010, I moved back home to Ottawa and started my Master of Arts (MA) degree in Art History: Art and its Institutions at Carleton University. I graduated in 2012 with a published thesis on “Eco-Exhibiting."
- I used to work at the Royal Academy of Arts (RA) in London, England as a Curatorial Assistant helping to put on blockbuster art shows. I even met Ai Weiwei and David Hockney! It was a glamorous time with the inner art world.
- I enjoy painting still-life objects and I’ve been painting a Canadian cottage life series.
- I’ve been painting with water-mixable oil paints since 2008 and I like that they are healthier for my home studio, easy to clean, and dry faster.
- I love spending time with my partner Dave and our families, going on lunchtime walks, doing yoga after work, cooking healthy meals, relaxing at our cottage.
